===== AV Converters ===== ==== RGB (Chroma) Encoders ==== RGB (Chroma) encoders create s-video or composite video from RGB. Most post-NES/Famicom consoles have one inside, though many (like the GameCube and PCEngine) use a dedicated encoder that cannot be separated from the machine. The most common encoders are from Sony, the CXA series powered just about every pre-Dreamcast system. The CXA1145 didn't offer real S-video, but the CXA1645 and CXA2075 did (see Micomsoft XMD-3). The last chip, the CXA2075, is the best in the series but is very rare. * Encoder ICs * Sony CXA Series * Analog Devices AD725 (AD72x Series) * Encoding products * Micomsoft XAV-2s RGBS to S-Video and Composite Video Encoder * Micomsoft XMD-3 RGBS Encoder (for 9 pin mini-DIN Sega Consoles) * AD725EB Analog Devices Evaluation Board for AD725(AR) * Huai I CV-04 ==== Chroma Decoders ==== Chroma decoders disassemble composite or s-video and rebuilt an RGB signal. All TVs perform this function, and many arcade machines - particularly DVD or LD machines, to drive the RGB monitor from other signals. * Decoding products * Huai I CV-03 ==== Transcoders ==== Transcoders convert from one video format to another. The most common use for a transcoder (for the users of this site at least) is to create component video from RGB, or vice-versa. * Transcoding products (RGB(S/HV) to Component) * Cypress Technologies CSY-2100 * Kramer Electronics FC-14 * Transcoding products (Component to RGBHV) * Audio Authority 9A65 * Extron CVC 100, 200, 300 * Mayflash VGA005 (USB-powered box), VGA004 (Wii&PS3 cable), VGA001 (6V powered box with VGA switch) * Startech CPNT2VGAA (9V powered box) ==== Scan-Rate Converters ==== Upscanners usually create VGA signals from TV-rate signals (31kHz+ from 15kHz). You can also downscan, such as creating TV from VGA, but since most modern video cards offer this option it's becoming less common. === Upscan Units === Also called VGA boxes, among other things. Micomsoft's X-RGB series are the best available upscan convertors, as they are typically the only ones that will work with RGB signals. * Aims Lab JAM!! * Mayflash Multi-purposed VGA BOX * Converters.tv RGB,CGA to VGA Converter * Huai I ACV-011 * Micomsoft's X-RGB series * Micomsoft XRGB-1 * Micomsoft XRGB-2 * NFG Review * NFG Review * Micomsoft XRGB-2 Plus * NFG Review * Tiptonium Review * Micomsoft XRGB-3 * VDigi Wii HDMI === Line Doublers/Quadruplers === * Faroudja LD100 * Extron System 4 LDex * Extron System 4 LQex
