Konami Windy Pinouts

Several of the Konami Windy connectors use the same pinout as Sega's Astro City cabinets. The information below is based on schematic diagrams for the Windy cabinets, so please verify they match your cabinet's configuration.

Konami used a wide range of connectors from different series from two different manufacturers. JST YL, VL, EL and EH are used for cabinet wiring, and AMP Universal Power is used for Sega compatibility on the control panel, monitor and a few other places.

On most connectors, there is a key that indicates the location of pin #1. For this reason many diagrams do not indicate plug or socket because it doesn't matter: pin 1 is always pin 1. If there's no key the orientation will be mentioned.

Connector Notes

  • ⚠️ Some series have a plug with a socket inner connector, and vice versa. This nomenclature is sort of backwards to what you might expect. The arrows in the table below indicate the proper connectors for both types.
  • Gauge: For all of these connectors, the part codes are listed. The inner contacts come in two gauges, typically the large gauge (lower numbers) are used for power, the smaller gauge (higher numbers) are used for everything else.

Control Input

Primary Controls

The pinouts for the P1 and P2 12-pin connectors are the same as the Sega cabinets. The Windy 1 is the same as the Astro City, with start, stick and buttons 1-3. The Windy 2 adds buttons 4 and 5, same as the Sega New Net City and Naomi cabinets.

Like Sega's cabinets the P1 connector is white and P2 is yellow.

1 Start 5 Down 9 Button 4
2 Right 6 Button 1 10 Button 5
3 Left 7 Button 2 11 +5V
4 Up 8 Button 3 12 Ground

If your Windy cabinet isn't wired for buttons 4 and 5 on the primary connector, they'll be on the extra buttons connector.

Extra Buttons

Both Windy cabinets use the first eight pins on a ten pin connector for the extra buttons, same as the Astro City. Sega's New Net City and Naomi cabs used all ten pins, but the Windy 2 used the same 8 pins as the first Windy.

The pinouts are different however: on the Windy 1, only buttons 1-3 are on the 12-pin connector, it's assumed buttons 4-6 are on the extra buttons connector. On the Windy 2 buttons 1-5 are on the 12-pin connector, and the extra buttons connector carries buttons 6, 7 and 8.

In the Windy all ten wires are present, but in the Windy 2 pins 9 and 10 aren't present.

RGB from JAMMA

A JST VL-series connector handles the power and degauss from the power supply, and the RGB & Sync from the JAMMA connector use a JST YL-series connector. Both go into an AMP UP-series 15-pin connector, for a monitor connection compatible with Sega's Astro City cabinets.
